Subaru Outback 2025 – At a special meeting with dealers in the United States, the next generation of the 2025 Outback model for the American company Subaru Group was revealed. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s to come for US consumers.
At a special meeting last week, Subaru of America revealed the 2025 Subaru Outback to its US dealers. According to a report by Automotive News (by subscription), the Camden, New Jersey-based automaker gave its dealers a “peek behind the curtain” of the next-generation Outback midsize SUV.

The 2023 Outback, in the fourth year of its life cycle, received a “refresh” with new upgrades, but significant changes come in the 2025 model year when the Outback gets a complete redesign. Subaru of America has the next-generation Outback built to show retailers what it has to offer customers in two years.

Jeff Williams, owner of Williams Subaru in Lansing, Michigan, told Automotive News while attending the Subaru Team of America Dealer/CEO/CFO Forum that US Subaru retailers are excited to get a sneak peek at the redesigned 2025 Outback. It could be a working model, or still on the drawing board.
“I’m very excited about a car going here,” Williams said, declining to divulge details about it. “Subaru’s engineers and designers seem to have addressed all the issues we raised with the Outback. They seem to be listening to us, which gives me confidence in how the next-generation Outback will perform in the market.”
We don’t have details on Subaru dealers’ concerns about the current-generation Outback midsize SUV. The 2023 Outback has a sales moratorium on the recently updated midsize SUV, which worries Subaru of America and its dealers.
There was a problem with the SOS button for the 2023 Subaru Outback, “Specifically, when the SOS button is pressed, it does not function as designed and fails to make a connection,” a Subaru of America statement said. The button is connected to the Subaru Starlink technology inside the vehicle.
Introducing The 2025 Subaru Outback: A Fusion Of Versatility And Innovation
However, the Outback will need a hybrid powertrain to compete with the likes of the Toyota Highlander Hybrid, Ford Explorer Hybrid, and Jeep Grand Cherokee Hybrid. All three cars outsold the Outback last year.
With the Subaru Outback getting a complete redesign for the 2025 model year, Subaru could use its new 1.8-liter direct-injected, turbocharged boxer engine to develop the next-generation Outback Hybrid.
Subaru already offers a 1.8-liter turbocharged direct injection (DIT) engine in the Japanese-spec 2023 Outback. Subaru could pair the small turbocharged engine with hybrid technology currently being developed with Toyota.
Subaru hasn’t confirmed the details of the 2025 Outback, but it fits its goals and the Japanese automaker’s 2020 Vision Plan.
Subaru Outback Hybrid Mixes Style With Efficiency Across Imagination’s Realm
Subaru announced last year that 40 percent of its global sales from 2025 to 2030 would consist of some form of electric power, and the Japanese automaker has set a goal to “sell only electric vehicles” worldwide by the first half of the 2030s.
The fuel-hungry 2025 Subaru Outback could be the model that puts the hybrid car back on top. Once production restrictions are lifted with the introduction of the redesigned Outback, Williams predicted the new midsize SUV will return to dominating the SOA all-wheel-drive lineup as the automaker’s best-selling model.
