Bmw X5 2025 – BMW sells more X5 SUVs than any other model. It debuted in 2000 as the brand’s first SUV and now sits in the lineup above the small X3 and below the three-row X7. Luxury midsize SUVs include the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, Lexus RX, and Genesis GV80.
The fourth generation X5 received a new mid-cycle model for 2024 that introduces exterior updates, improvements to the entire train, and expanded technology content. For 2025, X5 sDrive40i, xDrive40i, and xDrive50e models get standard full LED lights with cornering. The performance X5 M does not change for 2025.

Perhaps it’s no surprise that the so-called top-of-the-line driving machine has a fun midsize SUV in the mix. Regardless of the power train, every 2025 X5 can deliver a sporty performance with smooth, seamless operation of gas and electricity. The available models sDrive40i and xDrive40i have a good combination of practicality and comfort, while the xDrive50e plug-in hybrid feels that it has competition for the next model (especially thanks to last year update). The M60i is as sporty as the M car, but it has no edge in its ride.

The X5’s build quality is impressive, but its styling — both exterior and interior — lacks much character. However, the big screen and powerful sound, along with other technology, may be enough for some people to overlook the poor quality of the building. More affordable and attractive options can be found in the Genesis GV80 and Lincoln Nautilus.
Last year’s powertrain carried over this year, resulting in two six-cylinder and two eight-cylinder options. All work with an eight-speed automatic transmission and are mild hybrids except the xDrive50e plug-in hybrid. The only RWD model is the sDrive40i – the rest are AWD.
For maximum acceleration, the gnarly X5 M is the desired variant. BMW says it can sprint to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, which is pretty quick for any SUV.
Other models are not as fast but are still capable of speeding up. BMW pegs the M60i from 0-60 mph at 4.2 seconds, while the XDrive50e plug-in hybrid can do it in around 4.6 seconds. For the base model 40i, the automaker estimates 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds.

Despite doing well in IIHS crash tests, the 2024 X5 failed to earn either of the organization’s two highest honors. It’s not measured in the modified mid-overlap front, and the headlights are Marginal or Acceptable depending on the cut. However, it is possible that the 2025 model will get the nod.
For 2024, the X5 received only four stars (out of five) overall rating from the NHTSA. These ratings are for entry-level small hybrids only, as other models have not yet been rated. The agency also hasn’t rated the 2025 X5 yet.
Adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and automatic brake assist are standard on the X5. Likewise, rain-sensing wipers, automatic head and corner-correction are new this year. Road Assistance is on par or even better for better brands like Ford’s BlueCruise and GM’s Super Cruise.
Cargo capacity is similar to the X5’s closest competitor, the Mercedes GLE. Some competitors (like this one) have more front legroom.

We’re in love with the big, curved display aesthetic that is sweeping the automotive industry. The X5 has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central infotainment interface. Additional features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, climate control, power front seats and power-folding rearview mirrors.
The 2025 BMW X5 is available in four trims: sDrive40i / xDrive40i, xDrive50e, M60i, and M Competition. We would be tempted to opt for the xDrive50e plug-in hybrid trim, as it better balances the model’s sportiness and performance. The PHEV offers the best fuel economy and all-electric range while still matching the M60i’s speed. This seems like a win-win solution to us.
Prices for the 2025 RWD X5 sDrive40i model start at around $66,500 and go up to $74,000 for the recommended xDrive50e model. At the top of the trim range, recommended retail prices for the X5 M Competition exceed an eye-watering $125,500.
